Yearning for Zion Ranch Incident

The Texas Division of Emergency Management tasked BCFS Emergency Management to provide overall command and coordination for the Yearning for Zion Ranch/FLDS incident that took place in San Angelo, Texas in 2008.

BCFS EMD coordinated the sheltering of the more than 450 women and children of the Yearning for Zion Ranch for more than 4 weeks. During the sheltering operations, the women and children were relocated during intense media vigilance.

BCFS EMD worked closely with incident command personnel to develop a no-fail plan that ensured safe, secure and dignified transportation of the women and children to a larger and more comfortable environment. The entire operation required the utmost confidentiality and professionalism in handling complex interactions involving multiple state agencies, countless legal representatives, and highly sensitive cultural issues.
